US aircraft maker Boeing has laid off approximately 180 employees of its Bengaluru-based Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center (BIETC) as the company proceeds with its decision to reduce the worldwide workforce. The employee cuts were executed during the December 2024 quarter and follow the earlier-announced program of Boeing to reduce the worldwide workforce by 10%.

Even though the company did not issue a statement regarding the layoff, the company termed the layoff "strategic adjustments" to enable it to consolidate operations. Boeing made it a condition that customer service, government operations, and safety standards would not be touched by the restructuring. While a few jobs phased out, other jobs have been created in other areas to help the company achieve its evolving business needs.

India is among the most critical markets for Boeing, with around 7,000 staff in the nation. Nearly 6,500 employees are located within BIETC's Bengaluru and Chennai offices, working on intricate aerospace engineering and playing an important role in the group's global business. Boeing has, despite the lay-offs, announced ongoing focus on operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

The India workforce reduction is part of a larger Boeing restructuring strategy designed to address challenges globally, from supply chain setbacks to increased competition. The corporation has faced significant headwinds in the past few years, prompting a strategic focus on adapting its workforce and assets.
